Team USA beats Canada to advance Semifinals

Team USA beats Canada 5-3 in the WBC quarterfinals to set up a star-powered clash with the Dominican Republic in the semifinal round.

Logan Webb threw 4.2 scoreless innings for Team USA. The U.S. got a run-scoring groundout from Kyle Schwarber in the first inning, an RBI single by Alex Bregman with another run scoring on an error in the third, and RBI singles from Brice Turang and Pete Crow-Armstrong in the sixth.

The Americans’ bats then went cold against Canada’s relievers, as Canada struck back with a three-run sixth highlighted by a Bo Naylor 2-run home run.

David Bednar escaped a two-on, no-out jam in the seventh and Mason Miller slammed the door by striking out the side in the ninth to send the U.S. to Miami, where it will face a Dominican Republic team every bit as loaded with MLB superstars as the Americans
